End of the year

Hard to believe the year has finished already, but it has. I hope you enjoyed the show on Wednesday, especially the CE2's performance. We are really proud of them as getting on stage in front of 100+ people and performing is no easy task! They did brilliantly well and enjoyed the whole process I think! Thanks to Romain for the good idea and thanks to all the kids for getting so involved! They were still making suggestions on Tuesday as to how we could add more to the performance!

In case you are not a French Section FB follower,

This term was largely taken up with preparation for the show. We started by reading and analysing Greek myths in English. Florian has of course been reading myths in French all year, which is where the interest originally  came from. The kids created a comic strip of Pandora's Box after we chose it for our performance. Choosing the characters was easy and everybody was happy with their roles. They made the Miseries as half sized models of me like they made half size models of themselves earlier in the year. The chorus made their masks, the Gods and Goddesses made their hats and the bed sheets were cut up (thanks Novotel) and belts measured and cut too.  The box was painted and decorated, and the French subtitles were collaboratively worked on using Google Docs.

Everybody learnt their lines very quickly and then worked on speaking clearly with expression, before recording them onto the digital microphone.

In the meantime, we continued to work on mathematical problems in maths, using the four operations, as well as techniques for division and long multiplication.

In science the children were looking at the living world and learning about life processes, the life cycle of frogs, flowering plants, and food chains.

It's been a great year in CE2 this year and I will miss them all next year! Thanks for all your efforts and support over the year and thanks to Yveline and Elisa for their roles as class parent representatives. Thanks also for the coffee machine, it's very kind of you all and much appreciated..! This year I spent approximately nt$ 18,600 on coffee at Lutetia.. so it will save me a few extra dollars next year too!!

Below the photos are some links to some spelling and reading lists that you might wish your child to look at over the long summer break. There is also another link to my favourite holiday homework website from the National Trust in England... Get outside, limit those hours in front of screens, have fun. I wish you all the best for a wonderful, fun filled holiday, and that the kids come back fresh and eager for CM1.

Donations for Show Costumes

In case you missed the e-mail, and haven't checked out Seesaw yet....

We will be making props and costumes in the coming weeks for our end of year performance of Pandora's Box. Each of the Gods and Goddesses and the chorus will need a toga and a cloth belt. The Miseries will be dressed in all black.
We will need 14 single bed sheets to make the togas and 14 cloth belts. Before we go and buy new ones, we are asking for any donations. If you have any old bed-sheets of any colour, and/or any old pieces of fabric which we could use for making belts, please send them in next week.

Many thanks for the support!

Back from Camp Taiwan

I expect that you are beginning to hear all about your child's three days away at Camp by now.. we had a fantastic time and I'm sure you'll be keen to hear as much as you can about it over the coming days. It was a real pleasure to spend time with, and see your children out there in an entirely different environment.. (except perhaps at 5.00am, 5.30am, 6.00am and 6.30am... you know who you are Barbets!!)

It's always interesting to see the kids in such an environment; their interactions with each other, with nature,  being away form the creature comforts of home, how they tackle new and exhilarating activities, the different ways they respond to nerves and fear!! They really are a lovely bunch and the Camp staff echoed this and commented on how well they got on with each other and with the instructors, how enthusiastic they all were and how little they moaned!

The weather was amazing, there were hardly any tears.. I think everybody had a good time.. they were certainly very excited and looked as though they were. Once again.. it was Florian, Marie and my pleasure to experience it all with them. A win win for CE2 and Camp Taiwan 2016.

I know the kids have been busy taking photos and uploading them all to seesaw.. I expect most of you have been watching them along the way.. Below is a link to a folder of photos I took.. I don't really use my camera much these days.. but I'm always glad I did when looking back over 'non phone' photographs. You can download any that you want by clicking on the download arrow at the top.

Marble Run

Today was the deadline for the Marble Run competition launched before the Easter Break. A wonderful activity involving all sorts of valuable skills including planning, design and evaluation. Three of the CE2 class took part and handed in their designs to the MPR where Mr Boit and his team will check and assess the entries. Lots went beyond the boundaries of the competition criteria but all entries have been accepted and will be on display in the near future. Fantastic efforts from Riona, Evelien and Lucas. Good luck!!

Sports Day 2016

No doubt there will be a plethora of photos across various media of today's Sports Day. The kids certainly looked as though were having a great time. Big thanks to Mr Milner and Mr Boit for the meticulous organisation as usual. And thanks to the parents who came along to support. It was nice to have you there.

Here are a few shots taken with my phone. I'm sure there are much better out there.

Er-zi-ping

It was looking like we might have been lucky with the weather when we left school at around 0900 this morning; the sun was shining and the clouds seemed to have cleared.  Upon arriving at Erziping carpark, it was beginning to cloud over, but the rain held off for the 25 minute walk to the pond...

Shortly after arrival however, the Heavens opened, and that was pretty much it for the next 90 minutes. Heavy rain. It didn't stop the kids from getting outside and searching for our baby amphibious friends though. There weren't as many as previous years but we did at least manage to find tadpoles at three or four different stages of their life cycles.

Unfortunately, everything got so wet that we were unable to record any of the findings. Some of the kids got wet through and cold, and so to the disappointment of some but the joy of others, we walked back to the buses early and were back at school in time for lunch.

Could I take this opportunity to strongly urge you to buy a waterproof coat at least, preferably trousers too, which will keep your child dry. The chances of rain at Camp Taiwan are very high and your child will not have fun if he or she is wet and cold. A cape is not suitable, neither one of the 7-11 yellow or blue pieces of plastic. They will not keep a child dry for longer than 5 minutes and being that all the activities at Camp are outdoor, it is imperative that the children stay dry and warm.
