Explanation texts and Mental Calculation

The children have been looking at different explanation texts since coming back after Christmas and today they have created a list of criteria for writing their own.

The activity below is a summary of how to successfully write an explanation text. Have a look with your child as a review of what we did in class today.. there is quite a lot to think about, so it certainly won't hurt to take another look. You can select subtitles and pause along the way if it goes a bit fast or the language is a bit tricky to understand.

Following up on the Mathletics mental maths practice, the first round of the anuel AEFE mental calculation competition will take place in February after the CNY holiday.

There are several ways to access practice sites so your child can practice at home.

Click here to access the online version for home computers.
Enter your name and then click continue.

Next select the green CE2 for all CE2 questions or select green individual categories from the menu. Homework today is to practice subtraction specifically.

You can also download apps for iPads or iPhones here or
an android version here.

Regular practice is definitely the way to go here. I would suggest a minimum of 2 rounds per day at home.. lasting a maximum of 10 minutes. This could of course be instead of the mathletics.
